On Friday, during the fourth match of the PAK vs NZ five-match series at the National Stadium Karachi, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, scored his 18th century, leading his team to a significant 102-run victory over New Zealand.

Pakistan secured the top spot in the ODI Team Rankings for the first time in history after their dominant 102-run victory over a struggling New Zealand team.

Despite their captain Tom Latham’s 60, New Zealand’s batting lineup struggled to chase the mammoth target of 335 and got bundled out for a meager 232 in the 43rd over, resulting in a massive 102-run victory for the home team.

New Zealand’s touring side had a careful start to their run chase. Their openers, Will Young (15) and Tom Blundell, scored 36 runs for the first wicket before Mohammad Wasim Jr dismissed the latter in the eighth over.

After the slump, New Zealand captain Latham and Daryl Mitchell formed a vital partnership of 83 runs for the third wicket, looking to anchor their run chase.

The partnership between Latham and Mitchell seemed to have stabilized, and they aimed to increase their run rate. However, Mitchell stumbled against Usama Mir and got dismissed after scoring 34 off 48, including a boundary.

Latham was part of another critical partnership for New Zealand, adding 55 runs to the total with Mark Chapman during their fourth-wicket stand.

The dismissal of Chapman led to a match-defining collapse, and New Zealand was eventually bowled out in the 44th over.

During his sixth-wicket partnership with Iftikhar, the Pakistan skipper made history by becoming the quickest player to score 18 ODI centuries.

First ODI

On Thursday, the Pindi Cricket Stadium witnessed the commencement of the first PAK vs NZ ODI encounter. Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan team, won the toss and elected to field first.

New Zealand took the batting initiative and managed to put up a commendable total on the scoreboard, courtesy of remarkable performances by Daryl Mitchell and Will Young.

Mitchell showcased his skills by scoring an impressive century, accumulating 113 runs off 115 balls, including 11 boundaries and a six. Similarly, Young contributed with a half-century, amassing 86 runs from just 78 deliveries, featuring eight boundaries and two sixes.

Nevertheless, the target set by New Zealand proved inadequate for their bowlers to defend against Pakistan’s dominant opening pair, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq.

Fakhar Zaman continued his exceptional form by scoring his second consecutive century, emerging as Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the chase. He amassed 117 runs off 114 balls, smashing 13 boundaries and a six.

In contrast, Imam scored a solid 60 runs from 65 deliveries, including five boundaries and a maximum. Pakistan’s commanding performance resulted in a five-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first match of the PAK vs NZ ODI series.

This win marked Pakistan’s 500th international victory in the 50-Overs format, achieved in their 949th ODI fixture. Pakistan joined the ranks of India and Australia as the third team to reach this milestone.

Second ODI

With an unbeaten knock of 180*, the Pakistan opener showcased his brilliance by smashing 17 boundaries and six colossal sixes, leading his team to a successful chase of New Zealand’s formidable total of 336/5 with 10 deliveries remaining.

Several records tumbled during this match, as Fakhar became only the fourth Pakistani batsman to achieve three consecutive ODI centuries. Additionally, he earned the distinction of being the fastest player from Pakistan to reach the milestone of 3000 ODI runs, according to the ICC.

Pakistan’s total of 337/3 also marked the fourth highest score ever achieved by their men’s team in an ODI, and it stands as their second-best run chase.

Although skipper Babar Azam contributed a valuable 68 runs, and experienced batsman Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 54*, it was Fakhar who stole the spotlight with his devastating performance.

The dynamic left-hander continued his remarkable form, guiding the team to a thrilling victory.

Joining forces at the crease, Rizwan and Fakhar skillfully navigated their way to the win, ensuring that Pakistan secured a commanding 2-0 lead in the ongoing five-game ODI series.

New Zealand Tour of Pakistan 2023:

PAK vs NZ 1st T20I:

Despite choosing to bat first, Pakistan struggled to get a strong start in their innings, as their reliable opening duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were dismissed cheaply. New Zealand’s fast bowler Adam Milne dismissed Rizwan with a couple of out-swinging deliveries before hitting his pads and securing New Zealand’s first wicket in the second over of PAK vs NZ series.

Saim Ayub’s impressive knock of 47 runs off 28 balls, at a strike rate of 167.9, was a standout performance, followed by Fakhar Zaman’s equally impressive 47 off 28 balls.

Together, their contributions helped to stabilize the team’s innings and achieve a good total on the scoreboard. Throughout the innings, Milne continued to use his pace to challenge the home team’s batsmen and eventually managed to dismiss the crucial wicket of Captain Babar Azam, bowling him out for just seven runs.

PAK vs NZ 2nd T20I:

The Iconic Gaddafi Stadium hosted the second match of the five-game T20 series between Pakistan and New Zealand. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and chose to bat first, and his team proved him right by putting up a massive score on the board.

The touring side failed to chase down the target set by the Green Shirts, which resulted in their second consecutive defeat in the PAK vs NZ series. In the seventh over, Shadab Khan managed to trap New Zealand skipper Tom Latham LBW for 19 runs, securing the first wicket for Pakistan.

In the following over, Imad Wasim dismissed Finn Allen for 26 runs, further denting New Zealand’s progress. Mark Chapman then tried to hold the innings together and formed a 33-run partnership with Will Young.

However, Haris Rauf dismissed Young for just nine runs, and the tourists kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite Chapman’s valiant half-century, he couldn’t save the team as Pakistan restricted them to 154/7 and claimed a comfortable 38-run victory.

PAK vs NZ 3rd T20I:

At the Gaddafi Stadium, the third game of the five-match T20 series between Pakistan and New Zealand took place. After winning the toss, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham chose to bat first and his team performed well, with Latham struck a magnificent half-century and powered his side to a decent total of 163/5 against Pakistan in the third PAK vs NZ T20I of the five-match series.

Their total was challenging, and unfortunately, the home team couldn’t chase it down, which prevented them from securing the PAK vs NZ series victory in the third match. On April 20th, Thursday, the fourth T20I will be played, and Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, will be aiming to clinch the PAK vs NZ series.

PAK VS NZ T20I Series

Pakistan has secured back-to-back wins against New Zealand, triumphing by 88 runs and 38 runs in the first and second T20Is, respectively. Despite losing both matches convincingly, New Zealand displayed promise in the second game with an improved performance.

They exhibited a fighting spirit and will likely strive to make a comeback in the upcoming match to narrow the lead established by Pakistan.

As the visitors find themselves trailing 0-2 in the five-match series, they face an uphill task of staging a comeback in the remaining three games.

1st T20I:

In pursuit of a target of 183, the New Zealand batting lineup faltered, collapsing for a paltry 94 runs in the 15th over, resulting in a resounding victory for Pakistan.

The pacers from Pakistan made a remarkable start, taking three quick wickets during the batting powerplay, leaving the visiting side reeling at just 29 runs.

After the early slump, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham and Mark Chapman attempted to stabilize the innings, stitching together a gritty 27-run partnership. However, the budding partnership was broken by Haris Rauf, who dismissed Latham for 20 runs off 24 deliveries.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan had a shaky start with their reliable opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan departing cheaply, leaving them at 30/2 in the fifth over. However, Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub turned the tide with a resilient 79-run partnership that anchored the innings.

Saim Ayub played the role of the aggressor in the partnership, while Fakhar Zaman held his ground firmly. However, Saim’s innings came to an end just three runs short of a half-century, as he was dismissed by a direct hit from Chad Bowes.

Saim scored 47 runs off just 28 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes, before departing. In the end, Pakistan managed to accumulate a competitive total of 182, thanks to the anchoring innings by Fakhar Zaman and the quickfire knock by Saim Ayub.

The victory was eventually sealed by Pakistan’s impressive bowling performance, which dismantled New Zealand’s batting lineup and secured a second continues commanding win in the New Zealand Tour of Pakistan.

2nd T20I:

In the second T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday, Pakistan captain Babar Azam played a scintillating innings, scoring an unbeaten century, while Haris Rauf’s four-wicket haul led the hosts to a commanding 38-run victory.

Chasing a target of 193, New Zealand could only manage 154/7 in their allotted 20 overs, despite a half-century by Mark Chapman.

The visiting team got off to a cautious start with openers Tom Latham and Chad Bowes adding 44 runs before Pakistan’s spinners, led by Shadab Khan, made breakthroughs.

Shadab Khan trapped Latham (19) leg before wicket in the seventh over, drawing the first success for Pakistan, while Imad Wasim dismissed Bowes (26) in the following over, further denting New Zealand’s progress.

Chapman tried to hold the innings together and formed a fighting 33-run partnership with Will Young, but Haris Rauf joined the party and dismissed Young for just nine runs.

Despite Chapman’s valiant half-century and his efforts to steady the innings, New Zealand kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Chapman carried his bat all the way through the innings.

In the end, the hosts managed to restrict New Zealand to 154/7, securing a comfortable 38-run victory in the 2nd T20I of PAK vs NZ.

Overall, Babar Azam’s century and Haris Rauf’s four-wicket haul were the key contributions for Pakistan, as they clinched a dominant win in the second T20I against New Zealand.
