India’s spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed sympathy to the Pakistan cricket team following their 2-0 Test series whitewash defeat against Bangladesh.

The Green Shirts succumbed to a 2-0 loss in the two-match series against Bangladesh, which culminated at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test to complete the clean sweep. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

The whitewash resulted in Pakistan dropping two places to eighth with 66 rating points.

“This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965, barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches,” the ICC press release stated.

Meanwhile, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, sympathized with the “passionate” Pakistan fans and stated it is disappointing to see the current status of the team with such a glorified history.

“What a victory for Bangladesh but what a disappointment for Pakistan. It’s quite disappointing because Pakistan is not an easy team to beat. But more than 1000 days at home Pakistan haven’t won at home. Pakistani cricket fans are passionate,” Ashwin stated.

“You know who I feel for the most? It’s Pakistan cricket’s history. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik, Saeed Anwar, Amer Sohail… I can just keep on going. What legacy that country and their cricket team has,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin also backed Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood, stating that the latter speaks sense and can be a very good captain for the team.

“I feel terribly bad for someone like Shan Masood. Shan Masood is a very smart cricketer. I know that guy. He speaks a lot of sense. He can be a really good captain for Pakistan. But handling a Pakistan team at this point, where somebody like Babar Azam is not the captain and he’s the poster boy of Pakistan, it cannot be an easy dressing room,” he concluded.

Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has shared his disappointment regarding the national men’s team’s historic loss in the Test series against Bangladesh.

Wasim Akram, while talking to AFP, criticised the national Test team’s performance and raised serious concerns over the quality of cricket in the country.

“It’s a huge setback and our cricket is at a crossroads,” Akram said

“For a former player and captain, and a lover of the game, I was left embarrassed at the way they have lost from good positions. I simply don’t get it.

“I don’t get it. We are losing on a consistent basis at home, and that says a lot about the quality of Pakistan cricket.”

Prior to Wasim Akram, former Pakistan Test captain Javed Miandad, known for his blunt remarks, also expressed his disappointment specifically with the team’s batting woes while lauding the touring side for their disciplined performances.

“It is hurting that our cricket has come to this stage. Bangladesh deserve credit for their disciplined performance. But the way our batting has collapsed in this series is a bad sign,” said Miandad.

Another former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his concerns over the team’s struggle in home conditions.

“Home series were always considered our best chance of beating the best sides in the past. But for this to happen the batsmen need to get runs,” Inzamam said.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal lashed out at batting prodigy Saim Ayub after the national Test team’s humiliating loss against Bangladesh.

Saim Ayub scored 135 runs in the series, including two half-centuries, however, Kamran Akmal expressed his disappointment over Saim’s casual dismissal in the first innings of the second Test. The left-handed batter was stumped out after scoring a gutsy 58.

“Honestly, if I were in charge, I swear I wouldn’t let Saim come near the team for the next two years after getting out like he did in the first innings of the second Test,” Akmal said during an interview with local sports website.

The former batter also raised questions over opening batter Abdullah Shafique’s performance throughout the series.

“Abdullah Shafique, as you can see, is a specialist opener. Whether it’s the first ball or not, cricket has become so fast-paced that runs are expected right from the start,” he added.

“You can see that our approach is totally different; we’re not playing the cricket of the ’90s or ’80s. If a player like Abdullah Shafique isn’t scoring runs against such teams, then I think it’s a worrying sign, both for Abdullah and for Pakistan.”

Pakistan’s leading century-scorer in Test cricket Younis Khan emphasized that the national players need mental strengthening to overcome the losing streak at home.

“Our batters have got runs in the past but right now I think they need mental strengthening and a clear mind to overcome this crisis,” stated Younis.

Former Pakistan Test spinner Iqbal Qasim, on the other hand, asserted that the national team needs to improve in the spin-bowling department, highlighting that the national team does not feature great pacers like Wasim Akram.

“We don’t have bowlers of the calibre of Sarfaraz Nawaz, Wasim Akram, Waqar or Shoaib now. So, we should be banking on our spinners to win us Tests at home,” he said.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto imitated Argentinan football star Lionel Messi in a heartfelt social media post after the historic Test series victory against Pakistan.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test match to complete the clean sweep and win their first-ever series against the Green Shirts. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

Shanto, who made history as the first Bangladeshi cricketer to defeat Pakistan in Test cricket, shared a photo on his official Facebook account today.

In the picture, he can be seen peacefully sleeping alongside the hard-earned trophy, with a caption — “Good morning.”

The Bangladesh captain’s photo imitated the iconic picture of Lionel Messi, where he was seen sleeping alongside the coveted FIFA World Cup trophy in 2022.

Najmul Hossain Shanto was visibly speechless following the team’s momentous victory yesterday. “We can’t express feelings with words, we are really happy,” he said.

“I think before we came here we were looking to win, and the way everyone did their job made me really happy.”

Set to chase a modest 185, Bangladesh knocked the winning runs in the second session of the final day, just 25 minutes before the Tea Break.

Opening batter Zakir Hasan provided Bangladesh with a solid platform with a brisk 40-run knock from just 39 balls.

Later, an unbeaten 32-run partnership for the fifth wicket between veterans Shakib Al Hasan (22*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (21*) steered Bangladesh to a historic victory.

DUBAI: Pakistan batter Babar Azam faced a significant downfall as he crashed out of the top ten in the latest update of the ICC Test Batting Rankings on Wednesday.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test match to complete the clean sweep and win their first-ever series against the Green Shirts. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

The humiliating series loss resulted in the Pakistan cricket team falling to their lowest ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings since 1965 as they slipped to eighth.

Moreover, Pakistan’s players also witnessed a significant decline in their individual ICC Test rankings.

Babar Azam, who had a forgettable home series against Bangladesh, scored 64 runs in four innings and dropped three places to 12th in the ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Mohammad Rizwan is the highest-ranked Pakistan batter as he held on to his tenth position, courtesy of his 294 runs in the series against Bangladesh.

Pace sensation Naseem Shah also lost two spots to 35th, while mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed dropped three places to 49th.

Meanwhile, Khurram Shahzad, who was the second-highest wicket-taker in the series against Bangladesh, made a big leap of 35 spots to reach 60th.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test match to complete the clean sweep and win their first-ever series against the Green Shirts. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

The back-to-back losses against Bangladesh resulted in Pakistan dropping two places to eighth with 66 rating points.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh gained 13 rating points, however, they are still sitting in the ninth position behind Pakistan in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings.

Due to Pakistan’s decline in the rankings, Sri Lanka and West Indies have both advanced one position to claim sixth and seventh place, respectively.

“Extremely disappointed, we were excited for the home season but the story has been the same as Australia,” Pakistan skipper Shan Masood said after the loss in the second Test to Bangladesh.

“We have not learnt our lessons. We thought we were playing good cricket in Australia but not doing the job, that’s something we need to work on.”

Pakistan Test cricketer Ahmed Shehzad heavily criticised the national men’s team after their disastrous performance, which led to a historic Test series defeat against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test match to complete the clean sweep and win their first-ever series against the Green Shirts. The touring side had won the first Test thumpingly by 10 wickets.

Ahmed Shehzad took to his social media accounts and expressed his frustration over Pakistan’s performance, raising questions over the players’ abilities.

“Bangladesh has whitewashed Pakistan in their own home conditions. You don’t know how to play, you’re not capable enough to play [directed towards the Pakistani team],” Ahmed said.

The opening batter heaped high praise on Bangladesh’s cricket team over their performance despite coming off political turmoil in their country.

“All their practice sessions have also been conducted after they arrived in Pakistan. The condition their country was in at that moment of time was also not that good. They have come to Pakistan and have outplayed you without breaking a sweat,” he added.

Ahmed Shehzad further lauded Bangladesh bowlers for bowling in the right areas, while criticising Pakistan team management for blaming the pitch.

“The manner in which they played their cricket, the way they dominated. Their batters have displayed the unwavering spirit one requires to succeed in Test cricket. Their bowlers have demonstrated the channels in which one should bowl, and all you were left is blaming the pitch,” he said.

Set to chase a modest 185, Bangladesh knocked the winning runs in the second session of the final day, just 25 minutes before the Tea Break.

Later, an unbeaten 32-run partnership for the fifth wicket between veterans Shakib Al Hasan (22*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (21*) steered Bangladesh to a historic victory.

For Pakistan, Mir Hamza, Abrar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha and Khurram Shahzad could pick up a wicket apiece in the fourth innings.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood on Tuesday, opened up on his alleged altercation with ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, stating there is no tension between the two cricketers.

During the opening Test of the two-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, a video of the national men’s team, standing in a huddle went viral on social media.

In the video, Shan Masood was seen placing his hand on Shaheen Afridi’s left shoulder. The pacer, however, quickly removed the captain’s hand, which triggered speculations among fans as they suspected a rift between the two players.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Test skipper Masood finally cleared the air regarding the incident and revealed that he mistakenly placed his hand on the pacer’s injured shoulder.

“I think, a [clip went viral] in which I placed my hand on Shaheen’s shoulder and he removed it. He wasn’t angry with me but was injured and was in pain,” shared Masood.

Shan Masood further revealed that Shaheen Afridi was experiencing pain in his shoulder due to a blow he sustained facing Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana.

In the post-match press conference, Masood also acknowledged the team’s shortcomings in their recent 2-0 series defeat against Bangladesh and apologized to the nation.

“We apologize to the nation. Our common goal should be to work for the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Masood said.

“We need more experienced players in the Test format. I am very grateful that the selectors and all of us look at the playing XIs and selectors through a democratic lens.”

Masood highlighted Bangladesh’s strengths that paved the way for their historic victory before acknowledging that the national players need to work on their fitness to excel in the longest format of the game.

“I think, we should respect the opposition. Every opposition has its own qualities and Bangladesh’s quality was their discipline, which was more than ours in both Test matches,” said Shan.

“We need to analyze our mistakes and we made a lot of mistakes in this series.

“Test cricket demands fitness, both mental and physical, and I think, that is something we need to work on.”
