KOWLOON: Hayley Matthews smashed a sensational 123 from 52 balls to aid the Warriors seal a commanding 94-run victory over Falcons in the final on Sunday and win the second edition of the FairBreak Invitational tournament.

West Indian batter played a blistering knock comprising 11 fours and nine sixes to help her side score a mammoth 230-run total for the loss of just four wickets after they were put into bat.

Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce also thrashed a quickfire fifty, scoring 52 from just 20 balls with help of eight fours and two maximums, to put Warriors into command.

Falcons, on the other hand, made a promising start but once the top order was removed, the chase got derailed with the lower order failing to put up any meaningful resistance.

Chamari Athapaththu and Danni Wyatt notched up 45 runs before the latter was removed in the fifth over. England’s Wyatt scored 20 from 12 when she fell prey to Bryce.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari followed the suit quickly and made 29 from 16 before giving her wicket to Hayley.

Falcons captain Suzie Bates and no.4 batter Theertha Satish held the fort the for some time but with an ever-increasing asking rate the two succumbed to the pressure. Skipper Bates scored 25 while Satish made 29 from 32 balls.

Bryce and Hayley also etched their names on the top of the bowling sheet as they took five wickets combined to reduce Falcons to 137 for 8 in the 20 overs.

Bryce took three scalps while Hayley picked up two wickets as their all-round earned the FairBreak 2023 title for the Warriors.

KOWLOON: Chamari Athapaththu’s magnificent 78-run knock powered Falcons Women to thrash Barmy Army by six wickets and booked her side’s final clash with Warriors Women.

Put into bat first, Falcons’ bowlers did a great job in restricting Barmy Army to 158/8 despite Fatima Sana’s brisk 45-run knock.

Barmy Army had a dismal start to their innings as they lost two quick wickets for just one run as both their openers Lauren Winfield-Hill and Laura Wolvaardt bagged ducks.

Nigar Sultana and Deandra Dottin then looked to anchor the innings and put on a 23-run partnership before the former perished after scoring an 11-ball nine.

Dottin and Kavisha Egodage (17) then joined hands to further stabilize Barmy Army innings as the pair raised 46 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter perished in the 10th over.

Dottin followed Egodage and also walked back to the pavilion in the next over. She scored a brilliant 29-ball 42, which featured four boundaries and three sixes.

Fatima’s quickfire 45-run knock at the backend then bolstered Barmy Army to a rather decent total in their allotted 20 overs. She top-scored for Barmy Army with 45 off 30 deliveries, laced up with six boundaries and a six.

Marizanne Kapp and Mariko Hill picked up three wickets each for the Falcons while Athapaththu and Sornnarin Tippoch made one scalp each.

The Falcons then comfortably chased down the total in the 18th over with six wickets to spare, thanks to a top knock by their opener Athapaththu.

She batted for almost 15 overs and left her side in complete command before walking back to the dugout after top-scoring for the Falcons with a 50-ball 78, hitting eight boundaries and five sixes.

Following her dismissal, it was an easy affair for Kapp (23*) and Hill (19*) to steer their side over the line and into the final.

Rubina Chhetry led Barmy Army’s bowling attack with two scalps while Laura Cardoso and Fatima struck out a batter each.

KOWLOON: Warriors Women’s bowlers wreaked havoc over the Spirit Women’s batting lineup before Kathryn Bryce’s vital 26-run knock muscled the side into the final of the FairBreak Invitational 2023.

Put into bat first, Spirit’s batting lineup stuttered and bundled out for a paltry total of 73 in the 18th over.

Opening batter Sophia Dunkley and Natthakan Chantham offered brief fightback with their respective knocks while the rest of the batters seemed clueless against the lethal Warriors’ bowling attack.

Chantham top-scored for the Spirit with a valiant knock of 26 runs off 34 deliveries, while Dunkley could score a run-a-ball 16.

Besides them, no Spirit batter could amass the double figures.

Jess Kerr led the bowling charge for the Warriors with 3/11 while Bryce and Amanda-Jade Wellington bagged two wickets each.

Set to chase a modest total, Spirit’s bowlers made sure not to let the Warriors run away with a comfortable victory.

The warriors’ bowlers kept things tight for the Spirit in the run chase and kept getting breakthroughs at a consistent rate but Bryce’s vital 26-run knock eventually proved enough to seal the deal for Sindhu Sriharsha’s side.

Dunkley led the bowling attack for the Spirit with 3/16 while Mahika Gaur returned with 2/14.

For her all-round brilliance, Bryce was named the player of the match.

KOWLOON: Danni Wyatt led the charge with an unbeaten 76 from just 41 balls as the Falcons outclassed Spirit in the final league fixture of the FairBreak Invitational 2023 on Wednesday and sent a strong warning to Barmy Army ahead of the semifinal.

With the win, Falcons finish third on the table and confirm the semifinal clash against second-placed Barmy Army on Saturday. Spirit, on the other hand, play Warriors earlier on the same day.

Wyatt spitted fire with her bat as she smashed six maximums and seven fours during her powerful knock and steered Faclons to the finish line with nine wickets in hand.

Falcons chased the paltry target of 138 in just 14.2 overs after England’s opener and her partner Chamari Athapaththu (35) set the tone with a flourishing 77-run start.

After Athapathtu’s dismissal in the 10 over, Wyatt’s pressed the peddle even more forcefully and gathered an unbeaten stand of 63 runs with Theertha Satish to take her side home quickly. Satish contributed 21 off 14, too.

Electing to bat first, Spirit made 137 for nine in the 20 overs thanks to Kerry-Anne Tomlinson’s defiant knock of 65 from 46 balls.

Falcons had dominated the Spirts in the earlier half as well since Athapathtu and Sornnarin Tippoch ran through the batting line with their sensational bowling efforts. They both took three wickets apiece as the opposing batters’ looked hapless in front of the spinning duo.

Apart from Tomlinson, Sophia Dunkley 23, Nensi Patel 15 and Gargi Bhogle 14 were the only other batters who moved across single-digit.

Nepal’s Rubina took the first five-wicket haul of the tournament and helped Barmy Army bundle out the opposition for 107 in the chase.

Earlier Barmy Army scored 168 for 8 after they were put into bat, thanks to excellent showings by Laura Wolvaardt (49), Shemaine Campbelle (30) and Chhetry (30).

After aiding her side in setting a respectable total, Chettry went on to grab five wickets for 11 runs in four overs and claimed the Player of the Match award.

KOWLOON: Spirit Women’s captain Nicola Carey led from the front with a brilliant 84-run knock and scripted a dominating six-wicket victory over Tornadoes Women in the 13th match of the ongoing FairBreak Invitational.

The Spirit’s dominating victory over the Tornadoes and Falcons Women’s nine-wicket thrashing of Sapphires Women locked the four semi-finalists – Spirits, Warriors, Barmy Army and Falcons – for the tournament.

Opting to bat first, the Tornadoes could raise 150/4 in the allotted 20 overs at the back of a brilliant half-century by their captain Stefanie Taylor.

Taylor top-scored for the Tornadoes with 61 off 48 deliveries, including 10 boundaries, followed by opening batter Sterre Kalis, who scored a cautious 45-ball 37.

Dane van Niekerk made a valuable contribution by scoring a quickfire 28 runs off 14 balls, laced with three boundaries and two sixes.

Sophia Dunkley led the bowling attack for the Spirit with 2/20 while Carey and Shizuka Miyaji made one scalp each.

Set to chase 151, the Spirit comfortably chased down the total in the 16th over with six wickets to spare, thanks to an astoundingly berserk knock by their captain Carey.

Earlier, the Spirit had a shaky start to the run chase as they lost two wickets with just nine runs on the scoreboard.

Natthakan Chantham and Kerry-Anne Tomlinson settled things down with a vital 49-run partnership before Sita Rana Magar broke the stand by dismissing the former, who scored 16 off 23.

Coming out to bat at No.5, the Spirit captain Carey baton charged the Tornadoes’ bowlers and took them to the cleaners.

She top-scored for her side with a 28-ball 84, laced up with seven boundaries and as many sixes and scripted a dominating victory for her side.

Chantham, on the other hand, made a vital contribution with her sensible 29-ball 35, featuring four boundaries and a six.

Aliya Riaz was the pick of the bowlers for the Tornadoes as she bagged 2/15 while Chanida Sutthiruang and Magar struck out a batter each.

KOWLOON: Falcons Women’s bowlers wreaked havoc over the Sapphires Women’s batting lineup before Chamari Athapaththu’s magnificent knock of 75 not out scripted a nine-wicket victory for the Falcons in the 12th fixture of the FairBreak Invitational.

Put into bat first, the Sapphires’ batting lineup failed completely and could only pile 131 runs before bundling out in 20 overs.

The Sapphires had a rather decent start as their openers Gaby Lewis and Katie Mack (9) added 26 runs for the first wicket before the Falcons found the first breakthrough by Marizanne Kapp, who castled the latter.

Following Mack’s dismissal, the Sapphires ran into a match-defining collapse and could not recover until the end despite Kary Chan’s fighting 32-run knock.

Shabnim Ismail also made a vital contribution with the bat; scoring 26 off 18 deliveries.

Besides them, only Lewis (20) and Tash Farrant (15) made significant contributions while the rest of their batters could not get into the double figures.

Kapp led the bowling attack for the Falcons with 3/15, followed by Sornnarin Tippoch’s 2/11, while Athapaththu, Mariko Hill and Jahanara Alam struck out a batter each.

Set to chase a modest total, the Falcons amassed 133/1 in just 13.3 overs at the back of a magnificent 44-ball 75 by Athapaththu.

The Falcons openers Suzie Bates and Danni Wyatt provided a solid foundation with a 47-run partnership for the first wicket.

Bates was the core aggressor of the opening stand while Wyatt, who was struggling to get going perished in the sixth over after managing to score just four off seven deliveries.

Athapaththu then joined Bates in the middle and outshined the latter with her belligerent knock which featured seven boundaries and six sixes.

She top-scored for the Falcons while Bates held the other end with her sensible 30-ball 42 to script a dominating victory for their side.

For the Sapphires, only Sana Mir could pick up a wicket.

KOWLOON: Deandra Dottin scored an excellent 69 before taking two wickets to steer Barmy Army to a comfortable 17-run win over table-toppers Warriors in the 11th match of FairBreak Invitational 2023 on Sunday.

West Indies’ Dottin smashed seven sixes and three fours during her sensational 48-ball knock to help her side reach 163 for 6 after they were put into bat.

In return, the Warriors were bowled out for 146 thanks to a collective effort by the Barmy Army bowlers.

Deandra Dottin and Tara Norris bagged two wickets each while Fatima Sana, Rumana Ahmed, Rubina Chhetry and Kavisha Egodage had a scalp each.

Barmy Army faced a setback early on when their skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill retired hurt after facing three balls while South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and Kavisha Egodage were dismissed cheaply as the side stuck at 26/2 after 5 overs.

Dottin held the fort afterwards and raised a match-defining partnership with Rumana Ahmed for the third wicket. The two gathered 99 runs before Dottin fell prey to Kathryn Bryce.

Rumana, on the other hand, contributed 37 from 28 balls to take her side on top.

In reply, apart from Bryce’s late cameo of 26-ball 45, the Warriors’ batting lineup struggled greatly throughout the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

KOWLOON: Bismah Maroof’s fighting 66-run knock went in vain as Warriors Women edged Spirit Women by three runs in the low-scoring thriller in the ongoing FairBreak Invitational.

Set to chase a modest 119, the Spirit could only accumulate 115/8 in their set of 20 overs despite Bismah’s 66 not out.

The Spirit were off to a poor start to the run chase as the side lost two wickets for just 11 runs as both openers Sophia Dunkley (8) and Sarah Bryce (0) perished cheaply.

Coming out to bat at number four with her side in heaps of trouble, Bismah soaked the pressure and looked to stitch an anchoring partnership with Natthakan Chantham.

Chantham, however, could not hang for long and fell in the seventh over after managing to score 18 off 19.

Her dismissal sparked a match-defining collapse and the Spirit batting line-up crumbled.

Meanwhile, Bismah held her ground firm and kept the scoreboard ticking singlehandedly until the end of the innings but no support from the other end, resulted in her efforts going in vain.

Bismah remained the top scorer for the Spirit with an unbeaten 60-ball 66, laced with five boundaries and a six.

Besides Bismah and Chantham, no Spirit batter could enter the double figures.

Amanda-Jade Wellington led the bowling attack for the Warriors with 3/27, followed by Shamilia Connell’s 2/16 while Kathryn Bryce and Esha Oza could pick up a wicket.

Put into bat first, the Warriors also struggled with the bat and could only pile 118 runs before bundling out in the 18th over.

The Warriors also had a dismal start to their innings – losing the first wicket for just one run – but soon recovered, courtesy of a gritty second-wicket partnership between Mignon du Preez and Ellie Johnston.

The pair had settled things down as they took the Warriors to 58/1 in seven overs before Betty Chan found the breakthrough for the Spirit by dismissing du Preez, who scored 23-ball 27.

The Warriors then ran into a collapse following du Preez’s dismissal with their mainstay Johnston also falling victim and could not recover. They lost wickets at an alarming rate and soon bundled out for a meagre total.

Johnston remained the top-scorer for the Warriors with a brisk 24-ball 40, laced with two boundaries and three sixes.

KOWLOON: Ellie Johnston and Phoebe Litchfield raised an 87-run opening stand to help the Warriors beat the Falcons Women comfortably by five wickets in the seventh match of the FairBreak Invitational 2023 on Friday.

Set to chase a paltry 134, openers gave the Warriors a flourishing start before Mariko Hill (3-11) clawed back in with back-to-back strikes in the middle overs to gain some ground for the Falcons.

The top and middle-order debacle, however, had only sedated the rate with which the Warriors were advancing towards the target as they managed to get over the finish line in the 18th over.

Johnston and Litchfield scored 38 and 32 respectively while no.3 Yasmin Khan made 20 from 19 balls to put Warriots in command.

Earlier Warriors’ bowlers exhibited a brilliant effort to restrict the Falcons to 133 for 8 in the 20 overs.

Electing to bat first, the Falcons went through a dismal start, losing star openers Dani Wyatt and Chamari Athapaththu cheaply inside the first four overs.

Theertha Satish and skipper Suzie Bates then held the fort for the side and gathered 71 runs for the fourth wicket before the Warriors bowlers made a comeback to rip through the lower order.

Satish made 45 from 37 balls while captain Bates scored 44 off 38 to control the damage in the middle over but following their departure the Warriors underwent another collapse.

None of the last six batters except Christina Gough (21) made it into the double figures.

For the Warriors, Jess Kerr, Kathryn Bryce and Yasmeen Khan took two wickets each.
