GUYANA: Shan Masood struck a quick-fire half-century however his heroics went in vain as Hampshire Hawks suffered a four-wicket loss at the hands of Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Global Super League (GSL) here at Providence Stadium on Sunday.

With this victory, the Guyana Amazon Warriors solidified their stronghold for a spot in the finals, currently sitting in second place in the standings. With one last group stage match against the struggling Rangpur Riders ahead, they are well-positioned for advancement.

Warriors’ captain, Imran Tahir, had a stellar evening. After successfully winning the toss and opting to field first, he made a significant impact on the game, earning the Player of the Match accolade with impressive bowling figures of 3-18.

Hampshire Hawks’ Shan Masood showcased his batting prowess with a 79-run knock from 53 balls, which featured eight boundaries and two sixes.

Masood’s entertaining innings was curtailed when he was stumped off Imran Tahir’s bowling, but not before laying a solid foundation for his team.

Following Masood’s departure, Tahir maintained his relentless attack, swiftly taking out both Howell and Liam Dawson in succession to restrict Hampshire Hawks to 146-6 in their allotted 20 overs.

However, this score fell short of what was needed to challenge the confident batting lineup of the Warriors.

Shimron Hetmyer contributed with 24 runs and Roston Chase added 33 runs to the total before Hassan Khan hit a quickfire 27 runs off just 18 balls to steer Guyana Amazon Warriors to a four-wicket victory with ten balls to spare.

DUBAI: Shahzaib Khan continued his purple patch with the bat, recording his second successive century to guide Pakistan to victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ACC U19 Asia Cup here at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Pakistan with this 69-run victory qualified for the semi-finals of the U19 Asia Cup, having previously defeated arch-rivals India in their opening match.

The UAE were also punished by No.3 batter Muhammad Riazullah, as Pakistan U19 amassed 314 for three in the allotted 50 overs after being sent into bat.

Later in the afternoon, fast bowler Abdul Subhan delivered a player-of-the-match performance, decimating the middle order with exceptional figures of 10-0-57-6. His spell saw the home side collapse from 170 for three to finish at 245 for eight.

Shahzaib Khan, who had scored 159 against India on Saturday, smashed 11 fours and six sixes in a 136-ball 132. Riazullah was equally impressive, hitting nine fours and three sixes in a well-crafted 91-ball 106.

Shahzaib and Riazullah put on 183 runs for the second wicket in just over 27 overs. Their partnership followed a strong 94-run opening stand between Shahzaib and Usman Khan (41).

After Shahzaib was dismissed on the final delivery of the 46th over, Riazullah added 37 runs in the last four overs with Faham-ul-Haq (20 not out).

Chasing a stiff target, the UAE stumbled to 57 for three before Ethan D’Souza and Muhammad Rayan stitched together a 113-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Rayan’s departure at 170 marked the end of UAE’s resistance, as they eventually finished at 245 for eight.

D’Souza, the seventh batter to be dismissed, scored a 102-ball 84 with 11 fours, while Rayan contributed 50 off 66 balls, including three sixes and one four.

The victory places Pakistan atop Group A, followed by the UAE, India and Japan. In Group B, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have won two matches each, while Afghanistan and Nepal remain winless. The top two sides from each group will progress to the semifinals.

Pakistan will face Japan in their final league match on Wednesday at the Dubai International Sports Stadium.

The World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) has confirmed that the upcoming Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 will not take place in India; instead, it will be hosted at a neutral venue.

The decision was taken during the 26th General Council meeting of the WBCC at a local hotel in Multan, with representatives from the cricket boards of Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Afghanistan in attendance.

Meanwhile, officials from India, England, and New Zealand participated online.

During the meeting, Syed Sultan Shah, Chairman of the Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) was re-elected as the President of the WBCC for a two-year term, while India’s Rajanish Henry was elected as the Secretary-General.

India was initially selected to host the upcoming Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, but ongoing challenges, including logistical and administrative hurdles, have prompted the WBCC to shift the tournament to a neutral location.

“Both Pakistan and India are leading teams in the world of blind cricket, but visa restrictions have hindered their ability to compete against each other. Hosting events at neutral venues is the most practical solution to this issue,” Shah stated.

In recent times, the two neighbouring countries have been at loggerheads due to the Indian government’s refusal to send its cricket teams to Pakistan.

The focal point of this dispute is the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025, which has garnered significant attention due to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) refusal to send its team to Pakistan for the tournament.

In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now proposed a new ‘Partnership or Fusion Formula,’ aimed at resolving the ongoing standstill regarding the ICC Champions Trophy.

Additionally, the government of India has prohibited its cricket team from travelling to Pakistan for the Blind Men’s Cricket T20 World Cup, further intensifying the complexities surrounding cricket diplomacy between the two countries.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a new ‘Partnership or Fusion Formula’ to end the stalemate around the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ARY News reported, citing sources.

According to sources, the PCB has forwarded its formula to the International Cricket Council (ICC), according to which Pakistan and India will play all of their game at a neutral venue for the next three years.

As per the Partnership or Fusion Formula, India will not travel to Pakistan and vice versa for their games in the ICC tournaments scheduled for the next three years.

Sources said that the ICC will take a decision on the matter after holding consultations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The development came after the ICC on Friday adjourned the board meeting without a decision about the fate of the Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled in the February-March window next year in Pakistan.

The meeting was called after the BCCI refused to send its team to Pakistan for the tournament.

It is worth noting here that the BCCI suggested a hybrid model instead of travelling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and proposed India’s matches be held in Dubai.

Follow us on our Official WhatsApp channel

The PCB categorically rejected such a proposal and insists that it will hold the entirety of the tournament on its soil.

A day earlier, reports said that the PCB wrote to the International Cricket Council ahead of the scheduled board meeting.

In the letter, the Pakistan Cricket Board made it clear that the hybrid model, which would involve holding some matches in a neutral venue, was not acceptable for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, hinted at a new formula to be created based on parity for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Naqvi emphasised that any new formula regarding the ICC event must ensure equality and fairness.

“A lot of things are going on, I don’t want to comment too much because that can ruin everything, we have presented our point of view to ICC,” said Naqvi while speaking to the media at Dubai Stadium last week.

“India has also given its opinion, All the boards are trying to ensure a win-win situation for all, Pakistan also wants that cricket should win but anything with respect.”

GUYANA: Lahore Qalandars edge past Hampshire Hawks in a thrilling encounter to register their first victory in the ongoing inaugural edition of Global Super League (GSL) here at Providence Stadium on Saturday.

Lahore Qalandars opted to bat first after winning the toss but the decision backfired as they lost two early wickets with only six runs on the board.

Adam Rossington (30) and Mohammad Faizan (19) then knitted a cautious 31-run stand from 28 balls to help their team recover before Benny Howell castled the former.

Tom Abell scored a scratchy 21 off 27 before Luke Wells and Muhammad Akhlaq’s sixth-wicket partnership of 44 runs took Lahore Qalandars to the respectable total of 135-5 in 20 overs.

Wells scored an unbeaten 35 off 24 with one boundary and two sixes while Akhlaq struck 23 off 12 with three sixes.

In response, Hampshire Hawks managaed to score 131-8, courtesy of a discplines bowling performance by Lahore Qalandars.

Opening batter Tom Prest top-scored with 30 off 22, while Benny Howell and James Fuller played quick cameos of 25 and 26* but could not take their team across the line.

They needed 21 runs in the last over bowled by Lahore Qalandars’ captain Carlos Brathwaite and Fuller struck two sixes to take his team close to the victory.

However, they needed five runs off the final ball but Fuller could only manage a single, losing the match by a close four-run margin.

Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets for Qalandars, while Brathwaite, Wells and Asif Afridi bagged one wicket each.

For the unversed, apart from Lahore Qalandars and Hampshire Hawks, the inaugural season of GSL features Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Guyana Amazon Warriors, Rangpur Riders of Bangladesh and Victoria from Australia.

Currently, Victoria are placed at the top having defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in their solitary match. Meanwhile, Rangpur Riders after losing to Hampshire Hawks in the Super Over are lying at the bottom.
